When Dena and I left Port Hardy for Dawson’s Landing in Rivers Inlet we knew it was going to be the adventure of a lifetime. We made the 75 mile trip in 3 hours, the seas were moderate and we had a comfortable ride. Our friend, Steve from Port McNeill, warned us that the fishing at the head of Rivers Inlet would be hours upon hours of boredom. It was 3 ½ days before Dena hooked our first fish and the fight was on.
After some spectacular leaps and a 30 minute fight, I finally got the king in the net. Dena was very happy when he weighed in at 30 pounds, even though Steve said the locals throw back any fish under 40 pounds.
On our last day, 3 days after Dena caught her fish, she hooked another fish. She must have seen my sad look, so she gave me the pole and told me to have some fun. That fish put up a fight for 45 minutes and when I finally got a look at him, my jaw just dropped! He weighed in at 41 pounds!
Our 26’ SS Pilothouse has proved to be the right boat for us, plenty of room to fight the big ones, the power and range to get there safely and with all the comforts of home. You guys at Wooldridge really do make dreams come true!
