Grant and Glen Wooldridge join the HawgQuest Crew for some great action out of Westport, WA |

A big thanks to Hawg Quest and Slammer Charters
For a great lingcod and salmon fishing trip!
Dad and I just returned from a great fishing trip on 9-1-10.
We were invited to go deep sea lingcod fishing with the Hawg Quest guys on a 48’ charter boat out of Westport named the “Slammer”.
Dad and I drove down to Washington’s coastal port early that morning and boarded the “Slammer” with the rest of the guys.

We were on the bar around 7am. It was mild and the weather was foggy though not blowing or raining.
So conditions were not bad though the ocean definitely had some movement with a six to eight foot swell.
We ran about an hour before we dropped squid bait down to around 150’ of water to catch some flounder. We kept them alive to use later for our lingcod bait.
Then we were on the move for another hour or so to the destination fishing grounds, somewhere around 25 miles offshore.
We hooked up the flounder and sent them to the bottom (about 400 feet) for Mr. Ling.
No question that our Skipper, Rhett Weber sure does know how to locate and catch those cod.
In short order we were yelling Fish On, or LP which means Line Peeler.
If you know ling, you know how they come up with mouths wide open in their defensive
position looking like they wanted a piece of the hand behind the reel.
Well to bad for them as it was into the fish box with the rest of their buddies.
I can’t wait to introduce them to some chips and tartar sauce.
We limited on the lingcod in short order, so Rhett suggested we finish out the day with salmon.
He’d spotted some salmon on the way out and pointed the boat towards Westport.
We stopped at probably the half way back point and dropped the salmon gear for immediate hookups.
It started with Taj’s brother Kier, who was first to nail a salmon. We did quite well on salmon and after a bit Rhett said reel’em in boys and let’s head back.
Fine with me, as I know I have plenty to throw in the freezer once I get home.
Anyhow, a big thanks to Glenn Hall of Hawg Quest for having us along and a big thank you to
Rhett Weber of the “Slammer” who got us into the fish.
